ACS-COT BCon (Bleeding Control) Program Training Orange Ulster BOCES
OE-0028 - May 2018 - SAF 1 - North America - USA - New York

Launched in October 2015, Stop the Bleed® is a national awareness campaign and call to action. It is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) is leading the effort to save lives by teaching the civilian population to provide vital initial response to stop uncontrolled bleeding in emergency situations. The Stop the Bleed campaign has been successful in its efforts to inform, educate, and empower the more than 300 million citizens of the United States. ACS Fellows are educating other medical providers and the community on bleeding control in all 50 U.S. states and almost 40 countries internationally. To learn more, go to the American College of Surgeons site: In this domestic mission, members of the student body in the Allied Health program were trained in BCon techniques with C.A.T. (Combat Application Tourniquet) and Combat Gauze wound packing. They also completed intensive active shooter simulation scenarios.
